Buddhist Millenarianism and the radical Dharma “of the people” has been on my mind since writing about the White Lotus societies and their influence on popular rebellion in ancient China. The Ikko-Ikki played a similar, though quite distinct, role in medieval Japan. I am reposting this excellent blog series which summarizes one of the leading English books on the Ikki. Hopefully I will have more to write on them in the future, but for the time being why reinvent the wheel.
